DOTT. GIOVANNI PARESCHI.
Dirigente della Ricerca INAF
Giovanni Pareschi, Dirigente di Ricerca INAF, si è laureato in Astronomia presso l’Università di Bologna (1992) e ha ottenuto il Dottorato di Ricerca in Fisica presso l’Università di Ferrara (1996). Dopo un periodo di studi post-dottorato trascorso in Danimarca presso il Danish Space Reaserch Center, dal 1998 lavora presso l’Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera (Struttura di Ricerca dell’INAF, l’Istituto Nazionale di AstroFisica coordinato dal MUR), ricoprendo il ruolo di Direttore dell’Osservatorio dal 2008 al 2014. Il suo campo di interesse riguarda soprattutto le applicazioni tecnologiche e lo sviluppo di strumentazione per telescopi in ambito spaziale e da terra, ambito in cui collabora con le più importanti agenzie nazionali e internazionali come ASI, ESA, ESO NASA e JAXA, MPE, Harvard-Smithsonian CfA, DESY. E’ autore di numerosi articoli di astronomia strumentale e osservativa e autore di brevetti. E' editore associato o referee di riviste scientifiche internazionali e di progetti di ricerca di agenzie internazionali (tra cui: NASA, JAXA-Japan, FCT-Portugal, DTU-Denmark). Attualmente guida la partecipazione dell’Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica nel progetto internazionale Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) ed è Principal investigator del programma MIUR ASTRI (Astrofisica con Specchi a Tecnologia replicante Italiana), è co-chair del Telescope Working Group della missione ESA di classe “large” ATHENA dedicata all’astronomia in raggi X. E’ membro di diversi comitati internazionali tra cui il Science And Engineering Advisory Committee (SEAC) del progetto SKAO (Square Kilometere Array Obervatory) e rappresenta l’Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI) nello study-team di NASA per la missione LYNX X-Ray Surveyor. E’ membro, come rappresentante INAF, del Consiglio Direttivo del Cluster Aerospaziale Lombardo, dell’Associazione UniverLecco e del Consiglio dei Docenti della Scuola di Dottorato in Fisica e astrofisica dell’Università dell’Insubria. Nel 2020 è stato incaricato dal Presidente INAF per coordinare a livello nazionale le attività di Ricerca e Sviluppo interne all’Ente per contrastare la pandemia COVID-19.

Giovanni Pareschi, INAF Director of Research (Senior Research Fellow), graduated in Astronomy from the University of Bologna (1992) and then obtained his PhD in Physics at the University of Ferrara in Italy (1996). After post-doctoral studies at the Danish Space Research Center in Denmark as a fellow of the European Space Agency (ESA), since 1998 he has worked at the Brera Astronomical Observatory,
which is part of National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) that is coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR). He was the director of the Observatory from 2008 to 2014.
His field of interest mainly concerns technological applications and the development of instrumentation for space and ground based telescopes, collaborating with some of the most important national and international agencies and institutions, including ASI, ESA, ESO, NASA and JAXA, MPE, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and DESY. He is the author of numerous papers, mainly on instrumental and observational astronomy, as well as several patents. He is an associated editor and a referee for international scientific journals and research projects and agencies, including in the USA, Japan, Portugal and Denmark. He currently leads the participation of the National Institute of Astrophysics in the international Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) project and is the principal investigator of the the MUR ASTRI program (Astrophysics with Italian Replicating Technology Mirrors).
Dr. Pareschi is also the co-chair of the Telescope Working Group of the ESA's "large class" ATHENA mission, dedicated to X-ray astronomy. He is a member of several international committees including the Science and Engineering Advisory Committee (SEAC) of the SKAO (Square Kilometer Array Observatory) project and he represents the Italian Space Agency (ASI) in the NASA study team for the LYNX X-Ray Surveyor mission. He is on the Board of Directors of the Lombard Aerospace Cluster, of the UniverLecco Association and on the Council of Professors for the Doctoral School in Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Insubria in Italy. In 2020 he was appointed the INAF President to coordinate national research and development activities against the COVID-19 pandemic.
